Introduction
Saw Palmetto comes from the saw palmetto tree found in southeastern United States. The native Indians first started using this herb hundreds of years ago to correct urinary problems. Western civilizations, particularly Germany, started studying Saw Palmetto to determine if it had any medical benefits to humans.
Saws Tools
It was determined that the herb was an effective DHT blocker. It is believed to prevent the 5 alpha reductase enzyme from combining with the hormone testosterone and producing DHT. DHT has been found to block nutrients from getting to the hair follicle, thus causing hair strands to fall out and killing the follicle.
I have been taking Saw Palmetto for nearly 6 months now to stop my hair loss and aid in controlling my enlarged prostate, which is also caused by DHT.
Tips On Controlling Hair Loss With Saw Palmetto
I take one capsule of Saw Palmetto two to three times a day. I usually take my capsule after each meal such as breakfast, lunch and dinner and always with a large glass of water. Taking my capsule after each meal helps my digestive system absorb more of the supplement.
I shifted from a 450 mg dose to a larger dose of 540 mg. I did that because the smaller dose recommended I take two capsules after each meal. The larger dose recommended I take one capsule after each meal so I save some money.
I usually order one bottle at a time and it comes with 250 individual capsules. This means one bottle will last about 2 1/2 months. So it is wise to order another bottle about two months after you receive your last bottle. This will ensure you don't miss a single day of taking your supplement of Saw Palmetto.
I also use Minoxidil, an FDA drug approved for controlling hair loss in both men and women with male or female pattern baldness. Using a supplement, along with an FDA approved medicine for controlling hair loss, is being recommended more these days. It has been found that using a supplement along with an FDA approved drug for controlling hair loss is much more effective.
My Results
Since I start taking this herbal supplement about eight months ago, I've noticed a significant decrease in the amount of hairs I find in my wash basin. It appears to have reverted back to the normal hair loss a person should have, which is about 50 to 150 hair strands of day.
An unintended consequence of taking Saw Palmetto for my hair loss is that it has also stopped my prostrate growing and may have even shrunk it. The reason I can say this is because my PSA has been reduced from 5.8 to 4.9.
Conclusion
So if you're going to take Saw Palmetto take it after a meal, with a large glass of water and ensure you have an adequate supply so you don't run out. Also use it with an FDA approved drug for controlling hair loss such as Minoxidil.
